Flying Stars (Nine Star Ki) is a timing system layered on top of the nine palaces of a building. Nine stars — numbered 1 to 9 with elemental affinities — fly through the palaces on fixed cycles: by period (20 years), year, month and day.
The Lo Shu grid
The base layout is the 3×3 Lo Shu square: 4-9-2 / 3-5-7 / 8-1-6. Every row, column and diagonal sums to 15. Stars fly through this grid in sequence, which is why a chart is always the same shape regardless of the year.
Period 9 (2024–2043)
Period 9 is ruled by the 9 Purple (Fire). The 8 White wealth star of Period 8 has entered retirement, so many practitioners re-balance layouts toward Fire-supporting elements and the south-facing sectors.
Our calculator generates the full base chart from your property year and facing direction, overlays the annual and monthly stars, and flags the classic combinations (5/5, 2/2, 3/8, 4/9, 6/7…) with plain-language recommendations.
